What actually makes a perfume last
Two things: concentration and base materials. Concentration is the percentage of fragrance oil — eau de cologne is 2–5%, eau de toilette 5–15%, eau de parfum 15–20%, extrait 20–40%. But concentration alone does not decide longevity. A 20% citrus fragrance will still fade fast, because citrus molecules are light. What keeps a fragrance on skin is what sits in the base.

How to make any fragrance last longer
Apply to moisturised skin — fragrance molecules bind to oil, and dry skin releases them faster. Spray onto pulse points and do not rub, which crushes the top notes. Put one spray on a collar or scarf; fabric holds base notes for days. Store the bottle away from heat and light — a bathroom shelf is the worst place in the house.
On the claims: no fragrance stays legible on skin for a full day. “24-hour” and “72-hour” marketing refers to traces on clothing, not to something you or anyone near you will notice. A well-built eau de parfum giving a solid eight hours is doing very well.

Which perfume lasts the longest?
Compositions built on oud, amberwood, patchouli, vanilla or heavy musks in the base. Concentration matters too — an extrait outlasts an eau de parfum at the same formula — but the base materials matter more.
Is there a perfume that lasts 24 hours?
Not on skin, in any honest sense. A heavy extrait can remain faintly detectable up close after ten to twelve hours, and fragrance sprayed on fabric can last for days. Claims of 24 or 72 hours refer to the latter.
Why does perfume disappear on me but not others?
Two reasons. Dry skin has less oil for fragrance molecules to bind to, so it releases them faster. And olfactory fatigue — your nose stops registering a smell you are continuously exposed to long before other people stop noticing it.
Does eau de parfum always last longer than eau de toilette?
Usually, but not always. Concentration is only half the equation. An eau de parfum built on citrus and light musk can fade faster than an eau de toilette built on oud and amber.
